The Board is Getting SMARTER...

Well, got our 2nd assg today.. Thanks maam for allowing us to recharge our batteries! Hehee.. And thanks Mark, for posting that in the ADEC.. Hehee.. Erm.. The assg was about applying our knowledge and skills in using the SmartBoard.. And.. We have to create some materials to be used in our teaching. Well, that really make me feel like a teacher! And I'm really glad that we were to complete the task in groups of five. That really lighten the burden. Hehee.. Thanks so much maam! And of course, the example that was shown really inspired me so as to produce even better materials. Well, who knows? Maybe next time, it would be MY materials that we be shown to my juniors as one of the example.. Huff huff (oo) Hehee.. I'll stop now.. Not feeling really well actually. Maam, sorry for not being that participative (I even slept at cirtain time) in your class just now. Hontou ni gomen nasai!!! Saa, mata ne! Jya!

Get Smart! Er.. Board...

Well, I always like whan it comes to the application of the SmartBoard in classroom. We were explained on the basic use of the SmartBoard. It was so interesting and mind refereshing. Well, literally, since we DID learn about all those things ealiear on (a year ago, mayhap) and it seems that many of us has forgotten on how to use some of the tool. So, as I have mentioned, it was MIND REFRESHING and we wee also introduced to new application from the latest SmartBoard software. Hm.. It would be nice if we can use all those application in doing our short assignment. We also did not have ample time and the PC... Well.. I don't think I need to mention it.. Anyway, the lesson was fun especially when we were invited to present our task. I just hope that next time we would be better equipped and have more time so that we would produce a better presentation. But, it's okay. Next we would have our third assignment which IS about SmartBoard.. Hahaha... NOW I can show my real talent, right? Hehee.. But still, don't expect much.. I'm not that creative.. Well, see ya'! Jya!

Ridiculous Webpage

This week, we were taught about "Instructional video in teaching and learning". Thus, the lecturer introduced us to some website that are relevent and useful to be applied in conducting our lesson. Some of the websites provides us with some resources, such as video clips and so on, while others offers us online information such as a place to download the Curriculum Specification.
One of the webpage that we were introduced was very interesting yet, quite ridiculous. It is our own malaysian education webpage. It provide teachers with information and videos that could be used in their teaching. However, we could not browse in since we have to register. In order to register, one must key in the school's code. What?! Non of us is teachers so, how should we know any school's code number? In know. My parents are teachers so I can easily use their i.d to register. But, how about others? This webpage was supposed to be for public use. For example, trainee teachers like us or any other researchers who would like to view or get some opinion from the videos. Though they may be doing that to find out which teacher, from which school, that come and view their webpage, they should also consider having some 'guests' visiting their page. It is okay to restrict some content only for the teachers but not all. It is quite irrelevent for the Education Department to conduct such website.
Hm.. What else should I write about... Hm.. enough with my mumbling. Guess I'll take a halt and start calling my mum for her id..Mata ato de!

Edited Version =>

ADDIE model is a model that consist of five major parts which are anayisis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. This is the basic principle in teaching as well as in developing assessment tasks.

Lets look in the sense of everyday lessons. First of all, the teacher would need to ANALYSE the pupils's need and the topic to be taught. For example, in teaching grammar. Which approach is suitable to her learners? What are the pupils' prorior knowledge? Are there any other aspects that the teacher may want to consider, for example, the objective of her lesson, the proficiency of her pupils and so on.

Once those aspects are analyzed, the teacher need to DESIGN the lesson. What are the approaches to be used? What about the teaching materials? Does she have to develop her own or she is only needed to adapt from other sources?

The the lesson is designed and planned, the teacher can start DEVELOPING the lesson. She can start writing the lesson plan and come out with the teaching materials. This is where the actual production of the content and teaching materials based on the previous stage.

Once all the content are materials are ready, it is time to IMPLEMENT the lesson to the class. This is where the real classroom learning take place. This is also a stage where the teacher can test the effectiveness of materials that she has developed.

Finally, it is time for the teacher to EVALUATE whether her lesson was effective or not. She may want to take notes on her stregth and weaknesses so as to improve the teaching and learning sessions.

If we look briefly on the use of EDDIE model in developing assessment task, just like what I have mentioned earlier, the teacher need to consider and ANALYSE certain aspect such as the pupils' level of proficiency, the purpose of the assessment and so on.

Next is to DESIGN the assessment task. How many questions are needed? How many parts? Is essay questions needed? What about MCQ? What topic to be tested? All these are planned during this stage.

Once the planning is completed, the items are made real in this DEVELOPING stage, whereby the item construction is made.

Once completed, the task will be IMPLEMENTED in the classroom so as to check its effectiveness, as well as to assess the pupils. Implementation stage is whereby the task is put into a test.

Lastly, based on the observation and findings during the implementation stage, the items designer shall EVALUATE the items and find out it effectiveness. They may conssider certain aspects in improving the items to improve its realiability, validity and so on.

ASSURE model consists of 6 stages. A.S.S.U.R.E - Analyze Learners, State Objectives, Select Methods, Media and Material, Utiliza Media and Materials, Require Learner Participation and finally, Evaluate and Revise. Though it may have more stages, basically, it is just the same as ADDIE model.

In short, these stages are vital for teachers. We would need to consider it in many things we do. So, friends, start drilling now!!!

Yeah!! Improvement!!

Hehee..
I managed to go through the first week without dying or in a deep coma. Good, right! I even managed to dress up my blog space a bit.. Hehee.. So proud of myself.. Thanks to some friends of mine who were willing to share some tips. Domo arigatou!
Anyway, as the second week arrived, we were explained more about our second assignment. Well, frankly, I don't think it is THAT hard, but I surely need to crack my head to find some creative ideas.. Oh yeah, forgot to mention about the use of movie maker.. I have heard about it, have tried it out earlier on, but never really able to produce anything 'watchable'... I guess, this time I will have to face my fear heads on..
Digital life, bring it on!!!!
Oh, yeah.. Anyway, thanks so much for uploading the movie maker tutorial, prof.. Really helped.. If only I can have somebody with GOOD hands to help me with my puppets.. Hello!!! Anyone? Anybody???
Uhuhuu.. Can't really depend on my groupmates all the time.. Have to be more independent! Yeah, go Kid, go!!!

1st Time of Everything

First assignment...
Doing a blog?
Well, it not that I haven't heard the word but the truth is, I have never read or written any...
I guess, that is what blog is all about..
"To be read and to be written" as mentioned by one of the characters in 'Sydney White'.
Okay, let's start with the 'real' assignments..

1. How technology is going to affect how your students are going to be learning
2. How you as a teacher will be learning

Well, first of all, I think todays pupils are luckier than us. We had to deal with old-school teaching aids but they have the opportunities to have videos and lots of other fun materials in their lesson. I'm not saying that my education life was boring but, today's generation really do have a better chance to enjoy their learning.
However, as known, technology brings both, positive and negative affects towards the pupils' lesson. The easiest example is Astro. For sure, there are tonnes of new knowledge that pupils can gain from it. If i were to teach Science, I will surely encourage my pupils to watch 'I didn't Know That', 'Mad Labs' and so on. But, Astro, being a channel filled with cartoons and animation, pupils would be easily distracted. When I was a child, there was no Astro and TV did not provide enough enjoyment thus, encouraging me to read a lot. By the way, my father installed Astro at home only after my youngest brother finished his SPM. Hm.. And that was by the end of last year...
Okay, enough talking about technology at home. What about at school?
We used to have teachers pasting big pictures on the board or bringing some realia to the class. But now, we could even bring the whole world to class. instead of bringing the pupils to the zoo, the teacher can show video clips of animals living in their real habitat. Not in the captivity as what they will see in zoo. Today's pupils are very lucky. Their learning can be so much easier since there are tonnes are resources that could be found from the internet. however, teacher should monitor because some of the resources are not reliable, thus, may lead the pupils towards miss conception.
However, i strongly believe that the existence of technology will make learning even more enjoyable. The lesson will be more colourful and less formal. It would also be easier for teachers to create an authentic situation and technology also helps teacher in explaining certain concepts.

Okay, lets move to the second question.
"School would be adopting an ICT approach such as laptops and LCD projectors to help pupils in their learning process. The syllabus for these four subjects (Bahasa Melayu, English Language, mathe matics and Science) are to be modified accordingly, and the contents are to be prepared in the form of softwares" (An Education Course for KPLI, Mok Soon Sang)
Looking at the statement above, it seems impossible for today's teachers to neglect the use of technology in their lesson.
So, how will I as a teacher will learn? First of all, let me tell you the truth. I'm a techno-freak. To be even more frank, my roomate used to call me a techno-destroyer. God knows what I did to my techno stuffs. Hm, okay. back to the questions. How will I learn? Using lots and lots of internet service, of course. I usually use net to look for my resource in doing my written assignments and not for my teaching aids. I hope that by joining this course, I would later be able to maximize the use of the internet as well as my poor comp in creating even more creative teaching aids.
